Hortense Ellis (April 18, 1941 Trenchtown-October 19, 2000 Kingston Public Hospital) also known as Mahalia Saunders or Ellis, Hortense was a Jamaican singer. She had two children, Sandra Saunders and Christel Reid.

Her albums include Hits From Studio One & More, Alton & Hortense Ellis, I’m Still in Love With You and Jamaica's First Lady Of Songs. Genres she performed include Reggae.

Hortense Ellis began her musical career in the mid-1950s, when she and her brother Alton Ellis recorded duets together. She then went on to pursue a solo career, receiving much recognition for her soulful voice and talent. Ellis made numerous appearances on Jamaican television and radio, as well as touring internationally to perform for Caribbean communities.

She was often referred to as Jamaica’s "First Lady of Songs" and collaborated with various musicians of her time, including Duke Reid and Coxsone Dodd. Her song "Unexpected Places" was featured in the soundtrack of the popular Jamaican movie, The Harder They Come.
