Curtis was best known as the guitarist and backing vocalist of the indie band School of Seven Bells. He co-founded the band with his longtime girlfriend, Alejandra Deheza in 2007. Before that, he was also a member of the bands Secret Machines and Tripping Daisy.

Curtis was born in Lawton, Oklahoma and grew up in Dallas, Texas. He started playing music at a young age and became interested in the shoegaze and dream pop genres. He studied music in college and later moved to New York City to further pursue his music career.

Curtis was a talented musician who contributed greatly to the sound of School of Seven Bells. He played a pivotal role in the creation of some of their most successful albums, including "Alpinisms" and "Ghostory".
