He began his career in the 1960s as a film critic and writer. He contributed his expertise in several publications including Sight and Sound, Filmihullu, and Hufvudstadsbladet. In 1966, he made his directorial debut with the film "Satumaa", which was based on the Finnish tango. He started his career in theater in the 1960s and later worked extensively in television and film. He appeared in several popular Finnish TV series including "Kotikatu" and "Salatut Elämät". Ruohola was also well known for his work as a voice actor, providing Finnish language dubbing for many Hollywood films and TV shows. Some of his notable voice acting roles include Pumbaa in "The Lion King" and Hagrid in the "Harry Potter" film series. In addition to his acting career, Ruohola was also a trained teacher and worked as a drama instructor. He was awarded the Order of the Lion of Finland in recognition of his contributions to the arts.
