Károly Garam (May 10, 1941 Eger-) also known as Karoly Garam is a Finnish cellist. His children are called Sami Garam, Teemu Garam, Kati Garam and Satu Garam.
Károly Garam was born in Eger, Hungary and moved to Finland in 1956. He began his studies in cello at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and graduated with a soloist diploma in 1965. He was appointed as the principal cellist of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in 1964, a position he held for 42 years until his retirement in 2006.
Throughout his career, Garam has been a highly esteemed musician and teacher. In addition to his work with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, he has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician in numerous concerts both domestically and internationally. He has recorded a number of albums and plays a 1690 Matteo Goffriller cello.
Garam has also been actively involved in teaching, serving as a cello professor at the Sibelius Academy from 1979 to 2007. He has also been a visiting professor at several music institutions around the world, including the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia and the University of California, Los Angeles in the United States.
Aside from his musical career, Garam is also a proud father of four children, Sami, Teemu, Kati, and Satu.
