Barthez is widely regarded as one of the greatest French goalkeepers of all time. He began his professional career with Toulouse FC in 1991 and went on to play for several clubs including Marseille, AS Monaco, Manchester United, and FC Nantes.

Barthez gained international recognition for his performances with the French national team, helping them win the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 UEFA European Championship. He played a total of 87 matches for France between 1994 and 2006.
