Maureen Toal was considered as one of Ireland's leading actresses, having had an extensive career spanning over 60 years in theatre, film, and television. She began her career as a member of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin in the 1950s and went on to perform in many of its productions. In addition to her work on stage, Toal appeared in several films, including "The Quare Fellow," "Puckoon," and "Far and Away." On television, she was best known for her role as Teasy McDaid in the long-running RTÉ soap opera, "Glenroe." Toal was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Irish Film and Television Academy in 2008. She passed away in August 2012 at the age of 81.
