She had a long and prolific career in both silent films and early talkies, often playing character roles such as maids, gypsies, and fortune tellers. She appeared in over 50 films including "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1923) and "The Phantom of the Opera" (1925), both directed by Rupert Julian. Ottiano was known for her intense and emotive performances, often using her expressive features to convey complex emotions. Despite her success in Hollywood, Ottiano struggled with her English language skills and often had to rely on her husband, who was also her manager, to negotiate her contracts.
