Olga Sjøgren

Olga Sjøgren (August 9, 1884 Oslo-November 8, 1960 Oslo) was a Norwegian actor.

She was born Olga Othilie Caroline Sjøgren in Oslo, Norway, and began her acting career in 1906 at Den Nationale Scene in Bergen. She later worked at several theaters in Norway, including the National Theatre in Oslo. She was known for her memorable performances, particularly in plays by Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg. In addition to her work on stage, Sjøgren acted in several Norwegian films throughout the 1930s and 1940s. She was awarded the King's Medal of Merit in gold for her contributions to Norwegian culture.

Sjøgren was also a trailblazer for women's rights in Norway. In 1911, she co-founded the first professional theater company in Norway run entirely by women, called Den Frie Kvinneteater. The company was short-lived, but it paved the way for more opportunities for women in the arts. Sjøgren was a member of the Norwegian resistance during World War II and was involved in helping to smuggle Jewish children out of the country to safety. After the war, she continued to act in theater until her retirement in the late 1950s. Sjøgren was married twice and had no children. She died in Oslo in 1960 at the age of 76. Her legacy as a pioneering actress and advocate for women's rights in Norway lives on today.
