Edith Carlmar (November 15, 1911 Oslo-May 17, 2003 Oslo) a.k.a. Edith Mary Johanne Mathiesen was a Norwegian film director and actor.

She was best known for being the first female film director in Norway, having directed several successful films in the 1940s and 1950s. Before pursuing a career in film, Carlmar worked as a stage actor and director. She made her film directorial debut with the 1949 film "Døden er et kjærtegn" ("Death Is a Caress"), which was critically acclaimed and led to several more directorial opportunities. Carlmar's films often dealt with controversial and socially relevant topics, including adultery, abortion, and prostitution. She received several awards throughout her career, including the Order of St. Olav in 1991.
