He was best known for his roles in gangster films of the 1930s and 1940s, often playing small-time crooks or henchmen. Stone appeared in over 200 films throughout his career, working with directors such as Howard Hawks and Frank Capra. He began acting in Yiddish theater in New York before transitioning to film. Stone also had a recurring role on the TV series "The Beverly Hillbillies" in the 1960s.
