Maria Ouspenskaya

Maria Ouspenskaya (July 29, 1876 Tula-December 3, 1949 Los Angeles) a.k.a. Maria Alekseyevna Ouspenskaya was a Russian actor and teacher.

She was born in Tula, Russia and studied under Stanislavski before founding her own acting school in New York City. Ouspenskaya appeared in several films throughout the 1930s and 1940s, earning two Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in "Love Affair" (1939) and "Love Story" (1944). She was known for her roles in horror films, portraying the character of Maleva in the classic Universal horror films "The Wolfman" (1941) and "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" (1943). Ouspenskaya was also a stage actress, appearing in productions on Broadway and touring productions throughout the United States. She passed away in Los Angeles in 1949 at the age of 73.
