He began his acting career in the theater and later gained popularity on radio and in film. Claesson was known for his baritone singing voice and had a successful career as a recording artist. He starred in over 60 films, including "Fröken April" (Miss April) in 1938 and "Bland män och råttor" (Among Men and Rats) in 1946. In addition to acting, Claesson also wrote and directed several plays. He was awarded the medal Litteris et Artibus by the king of Sweden for his contributions to the arts in 1951. Claesson continued to act in films and on television until his death in 1967 at the age of 77.
