He was born to Italian parents and grew up in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Torriani began his music career in the 1940s, singing in various nightclubs and dance halls across Switzerland. In 1955, he represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Das alte Karussell" and finished eighth.
Along with his music career, Torriani also acted in various films and TV shows throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He became a popular TV host in the 1970s and hosted various game shows and entertainment programs in German-speaking countries.
