Kanokphong Songsomphan was born in Khon Kaen, Thailand and grew up in Loei Province. He studied at Kasetsart University in Bangkok before becoming an author, widely known for his vivid depiction of local cultures, natural landscapes, and daily life in rural areas of Thailand. He authored numerous short stories and novels, including "Lai Chiwit" (A Life's Story) which was adapted into a movie. Besides being a writer, Kanokphong was also an active advocate for the conservation of local Thai literature and traditional cultural values. He received several awards for his literary contributions, including the Southeast Asian Writers Award, in 2004.
