Cruickshank began her career in the entertainment industry in the 1960s as a member of the musical trio The Flanagans. She went on to have a successful career in television, film and stage, with notable performances in productions such as "The Sullivans" and "The Boy from Oz". In addition to her acting career, Cruickshank was also a prolific author, writing several children's books, memoirs and cookbooks. She was known for her larger-than-life personality and her contributions to the arts in her hometown of Newcastle, where she was affectionately known as "The Diva on the Hill".
