Dulcina de Moraes

Dulcina de Moraes (February 3, 1908 Valença-August 28, 1996 Brasília) was a Brazilian actor and theatre director.

She was born in Valença, a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and began her career in theatre in the 1920s. She was part of the famous Companhia Dulcina-Oscarito, where she worked alongside renowned actors like Oscarito and Grande Otelo.

Aside from acting, de Moraes was also a well-respected theatre director, who directed over 30 plays throughout her career. Her most famous production was the play "Orfeu da Conceição", written by Vinicius de Moraes, which was later adapted into the movie "Orfeu Negro" (Black Orpheus).

In 1965, de Moraes founded her own theatre company, the Dulcina Theater, located in the capital city of Brasília. She continued to work at the theater and mentor young actors there until her death in 1996. Today, the Dulcina Theater remains an important cultural institution in Brasília, dedicated to promoting Brazilian theatre and arts.
