She started her career in the entertainment industry as a singer and actress, becoming one of the most popular actresses in Asia during the 1930s and 1940s.

She was extremely talented, being able to speak several languages fluently, which allowed her to become a successful entertainer in both China and Japan. She was known as the “Judy Garland of Japan” due to her singing abilities and her popularity in the country.

Joan Lorring

Joan Lorring (April 17, 1926 Hong Kong-May 30, 2014 Sleepy Hollow) also known as Mary Magdalene Ellis, Dellie Ellis, Mary Magdalena Ellis or Mary Madeline Ellis was a Chinese actor. She had two children, Santha Sonenberg and Andrea Sonenberg.

Joan Lorring began her career on Broadway before transitioning to film, making her debut in the 1944 film "The Bridge of San Luis Rey". She quickly became a well-known supporting actress, earning critical acclaim for her role in the 1945 film "The Corn is Green" alongside Bette Davis. Lorring was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the 1946 film "The Verdict".
