Allan de Waal graduated from the Danish National School of Theatre in 1965 and began his acting career in the theatre. He later moved to films and appeared in over 30 Danish films, including "My Sister's Kids" (1966), "The Olsen Gang" (1968) and "The Last Exploits of the Olsen Gang" (1974).

In addition to acting, de Waal also directed films and wrote screenplays. He directed his first film, "Heldet kommer om natten" (1974), and went on to direct and write screenplays for several other films, including "Phoenix Bird" (1981) and "Rudolf og Ivan" (1986).

De Waal also wrote several books, including a memoir titled "Jamen, det var da også mig!" (2009) which chronicled his life and career in the Danish film industry.
