Alfredo Santos

Alfredo Santos (July 7, 1902 Manila-May 12, 1977 Los Angeles) a.k.a. Alfredo Cruz Santos or Alfred Santos was a Filipino actor.

He began his acting career in 1927, appearing in silent films such as "Giliw Ko" and "Ang Tatlong Hambog". Santos continued to act in films and gained popularity in the 1930s, earning the nickname the "Clark Gable of the Philippines". He also worked behind the scenes as a writer and director, co-founding the movie studio LVN Pictures.

During World War II, Santos joined the guerrilla resistance against Japanese occupation and served as a colonel in the Philippine Army. After the war, he returned to the film industry, starring in films such as "Sa Paanan ng Bundok" and "Kundiman ng Lahi".

In 1950, Santos moved to the United States and continued his acting career in Hollywood. He appeared in films such as "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing" and "The Sand Pebbles". Santos also helped establish the Filipino Actors' Guild in Hollywood to support and promote Filipino actors.

Santos passed away in 1977 at the age of 74 due to complications from a stroke. He was posthumously awarded the Gawad Urian Lifetime Achievement Award in 1985 for his contributions to Philippine cinema.
