Preben Kaas (March 30, 1930 Aalborg-March 27, 1981 Copenhagen) was a Danish actor, screenwriter, film director, comedian and film score composer. His children are Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Jeppe Kaas, Lone Kaas, Kaas Hanne and Pernille Kaas.

Preben Kaas started his career in the 1950s as a comedian and actor, and later went on to become one of Denmark's most successful screenwriters. He collaborated with filmmaker Erik Balling on a number of iconic Danish films, including the "Olsen-banden" (Olsen Gang) series. Kaas also directed several films, including "Ballade på Christianshavn" (The Ballad of Christianshavn) and "Flådens friske fyre" (The Navy's Fresh Guys).

Aside from his work in film and comedy, Kaas was also a talented composer of film scores and recorded several albums of his music. He was recognized for his contributions to Danish culture with numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Erik Balling Award, named after his longtime collaborator.
