Sikkel was a renowned Estonian actor who started his theatrical career in Tartu and later moved to Tallinn. He was known for his ability to portray complex characters on stage, both in dramatic and comedic roles. Sikkel's talent also extended to film, where he was a popular actor in many Estonian movies. He won an award in the Tallinn Film Festival in 1963 for his performance in "The Noose Hangs High", which was directed by Grigori Kromanov. Despite his success in acting, Sikkel was also a well-known public figure and was involved in various social and cultural organizations throughout his career.
