Ján Melkovic

Ján Melkovic (April 24, 1939 Stará Ľubovňa-March 21, 2004 Bratislava) also known as J. Melkovic was a Slovak actor.

He began his career in the 1960s, appearing in a number of films in Czechoslovakia. He gained popularity for his performances in comedy films such as "Kolja" (1996) and "Divided We Fall" (2000), which were both nominated for Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film. Melkovic was also known for his work in theater, having performed in a number of productions at the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava. He passed away in 2004 at the age of 64 due to complications from diabetes.

Martin Hollý

Martin Hollý (August 11, 1931 Košice-March 18, 2004 Bratislava) was a Slovak film director, actor and screenwriter.

He studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and began his career as a stage actor in various theaters in Slovakia. In 1961, he made his onscreen debut as an actor in Juraj Jakubisko's film "The Deserter and the Nomads". He went on to act in numerous films and TV shows.

In the 1970s, he turned to directing and made several successful films, including "The Boxer and Death" which won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1963.

Hollý was also a prolific screenwriter, having written scripts for many of his own films as well as for other directors. He was awarded the title of National Artist of Czechoslovakia in 1985 and received the Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk in 1996.

Throughout his career, Hollý contributed greatly to the development of Slovak cinema and is remembered as one of the most prominent figures in Slovak film history.
