Mehmet Shehu

Mehmet Shehu (January 10, 1913 Çorrush-December 17, 1981 Tirana) was an Albanian politician. His child is Bashkim Shehu.

Mehmet Shehu was one of the most influential figures in Albanian politics during the communist era. He served as the Prime Minister of Albania from 1954 to 1981, holding the position for a whopping 27 years. During his tenure, Shehu helped consolidate power for the Communist Party of Albania, which he played a leading role in. He was a strong supporter of Enver Hoxha, who was the leader of the Communist Party of Albania, and played a key role in purging the party of anti-communist elements.

Shehu was also a strong advocate for increased industrialization and the collectivization of agriculture in Albania. Under his leadership, the country underwent significant economic development, but at a heavy cost to individual freedoms and human rights.

The circumstances surrounding Shehu's death are still shrouded in mystery and controversy.
