He quickly rose to fame in the silent film era, becoming one of the most popular leading men of the time. He starred in over 140 films in just 7 years, often playing romantic leads opposite popular actresses such as Mary Pickford and Norma Talmadge. Some of his notable films include "The Call of the North" (1914), "The Virginian" (1914), and "The Spitfire" (1917).

Tragically, Lockwood died of the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918 at the age of 31, just as he was about to leave the film industry to return to his previous career as a salesperson. William Courtleigh, Jr. was born to a theatrical family in Buffalo, New York in 1892. His parents were both vaudevillians and he began his own acting career on stage at a young age. He eventually transitioned to film and appeared in over 40 silent films during his career. Courtleigh was known for his handsome looks and leading man roles. During World War I, he served in the United States Army and continued his acting career while on leave. Unfortunately, Courtleigh's promising career was cut short when he died in 1918 at the age of 26 from pneumonia, which he contracted while on a national tour. Despite his brief career, Courtleigh is remembered as a talented actor and a promising young talent.
