Sidney Toler

Sidney Toler (April 28, 1874 Warrensburg-February 12, 1947 Beverly Hills) also known as Sidney Hooper Toler was an American actor, playwright and theatre director.

He is best known for his portrayal of detective Charlie Chan in several films in the 1930s and 1940s. Before his success as an actor, Toler began his career as a playwright and director in local theatre productions. He moved to New York City in the early 1900s and eventually made his way to Hollywood where he transitioned into film acting. Aside from his role as Charlie Chan, Toler also appeared in numerous other films and television shows throughout his career. In addition to his work in entertainment, he also served as an officer in the United States Army during World War I.
