Stowell began his acting career in the early 1900s, appearing in a number of silent films. He eventually became a leading actor, and was known for his work in a variety of genres, including drama, comedy, and Westerns. Stowell worked with several major studios during his career, including Fox and Universal Studios. Some of his most notable films include "The Typhoon" (1914), "The Birth of a Nation" (1915), and "The Phantom" (1916).
Tragically, Stowell's promising career was cut short when he contracted the Spanish flu during an acting tour in Africa. He passed away in Lubumbashi in 1919, at the age of just 34. Despite his brief career, Stowell is remembered as one of the pioneering actors of the early silent film era.
