musician and bass player, best known as a founding member and bassist of the funk and soul band War. Born and raised in California, he first began his music career by playing bass for different bands in his hometown. In 1969, he co-founded War alongside Howard E. Scott, Harold Brown, Lee Oskar, and others. The band became known for their unique blend of funk, rock, jazz, and Latin music, and produced hits such as "Low Rider", "Why Can't We Be Friends?", and "Cisco Kid." Dickerson's melodic basslines and distinctive sound played a crucial role in defining the band's sound. He was also known for his energetic performances on stage. Dickerson remained with War until the early 2000s and continued to play and perform music throughout his career. Today, he is regarded as a legendary bassist and a pioneer of funk and soul music.
Throughout his career with War, B.B. Dickerson not only played bass but also contributed vocals on several of the band's tracks, including "The World Is a Ghetto" and "Galaxy." In addition to his work with War, he also released a solo album titled "Flying Lessons" in 1984, which showcased his skills as both a bassist and a singer.
In the 2000s, Dickerson became involved in various projects outside of War, including producing music for films and television shows. He also continued to perform live, both as a solo artist and with other musical acts. In 2009, he was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.

John Savage
