Sergei Khudyakov

Vahan Totovents
Vahan Totovents (September 1, 1889 Armenia-July 18, 1938) also known as Vahan Hovhannesi Totovents or Vahan Tʻotʻoventsʻ was an Armenian writer, journalist and poet.
He was born in the Akhaltsikhe district of Armenia and was a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. Totovents studied at the Nersisian School in Tiflis and later attended university in Bern, Switzerland. He was an active contributor to various Armenian newspapers and magazines and is known for his poems that address the Armenian Genocide, which he personally witnessed.
Totovents was also involved in politics and was elected to the Armenian parliament in 1920. He served as the Minister of Education in the short-lived Republic of Armenia and was later arrested by the Soviet authorities for his involvement in the Dashnaktsutyun party.
In 1937, Totovents was arrested again during the Great Purge under Stalinist rule in the Soviet Union. He was accused of being a spy and of helping nationalist groups in Iran. He was sentenced to death and executed in 1938.
Totovents is remembered as a prominent figure in Armenian literature and his poetry is celebrated for its emotional depth and political significance. His works have been translated into several languages and have been the subject of numerous studies and analyses.
