She was born as Charlotte Pick in Cologne and began her acting career at a young age. In 1855, she married her first husband, the actor and director Gustav Franz von Wolter. They worked together in various theaters in Austria and Germany, including the Burgtheater in Vienna. After her husband's death in 1878, Charlotte Wolter continued to perform and also took on directorial roles. She was known for her versatile acting abilities, playing both tragic and comedic roles with ease. She was highly respected in the theater community and was also involved in charity work. She died in Hietzing, a suburb of Vienna, at the age of 63.

She began her acting career on stage in Vienna and appeared in numerous productions throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In the 1940s, Englisch transitioned to film and appeared in several German productions, including "Münchhausen" and "Kolberg". After World War II, Englisch moved to West Germany and continued to act in films such as "The Wonderful Years" and "Ich kämpfe um dich". In addition to her acting career, Englisch was also a talented singer and recorded several songs during her career.

She started her acting career in the early 1940s and appeared in numerous films throughout the following decades. Perhaps her most famous role came in the 1955 film "Sissi," in which she played the role of Archduchess Sophie, mother of the titular character played by Romy Schneider.
