He began his career as a comedian in the 1980s, performing at various cabaret theaters in Austria. In 1988, he co-founded the cabaret ensemble "Schlabarett" and became known for his satirical and critical portrayals of Austrian society and politics. Dorfer rose to national prominence in the 1990s as a regular on the ORF television program "Das kann ja heiter werden". He also starred in the ORF comedy series "MA 2412" and "Die Notrufzentrale", which he co-created and co-wrote. In addition to his work in television and film, Dorfer has also written several plays and authored several books. In 2013, he received the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art for his contributions to the arts.
