After a successful career as a figure skater in her native Czechoslovakia, Vera Ralston decided to pursue acting in Hollywood. She was known for her roles in Western films and starred in several movies with actor John Wayne, including "Angel and the Badman" and "The Fighting Kentuckian."

Ralston also became known for her tumultuous marriage to Herbert J. Yates, the head of Republic Pictures. Yates cast Ralston in many of his films and even divorced his wife to marry her. However, their relationship was plagued by rumors of infidelity and financial troubles.
