Jaap Van der Poll began his acting career in the early 1900s and starred in over 70 films throughout his career. He was a prominent figure in Dutch cinema during the 1920s and 1930s and worked closely with director Maurits Binger. Some of his notable film credits include "Bleeke Bet" (1923), "David Copperfield" (1935), and "Pietje Bell" (1964).

In addition to acting, Van der Poll also worked as a screenwriter and wrote scripts for several of his own films. He was known for his comedic roles and often played charming and eccentric characters on screen.

Van der Poll was married to actress Marie Lohr and the couple had one daughter, actress Mieke Verstraete. He passed away in Amsterdam in 1977 at the age of 88.
