Leslie Howard began his career as a stage actor in London's West End before transitioning to Hollywood films in the 1930s. He is best known for his roles in "Gone with the Wind" (1939) and "The Scarlet Pimpernel" (1934). In addition to acting, Howard also worked behind the scenes as a film producer and director. During World War II, he put his career on hold and enlisted in the British Army. In 1943, he was killed when the plane he was traveling on was shot down by the German Luftwaffe over the Bay of Biscay. His death was widely mourned, and he is remembered as a talented and versatile actor.
