Pamela Brown was born in Hampstead, London, England in 1917. She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), where she received a diploma in acting. Brown began her acting career in the West End theatre before transitioning to film, where she appeared in several successful British films during the 1940s and 50s.
One of her most notable performances was in the 1948 film adaptation of Shakespeare's "Hamlet," directed by and starring Laurence Olivier. Brown played the role of Queen Gertrude, receiving critical acclaim for her portrayal. She also appeared in Olivier's films "Richard III" (1955) and "Ivanhoe" (1952).
Aside from her film work, Brown was also a prolific stage actor. She performed in numerous productions at the Old Vic, as well as in London's West End. In 1953, she won a Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway production of "The Teahouse of the August Moon."
