Sven Nykvist

Sven Nykvist (December 3, 1922 Moheda-September 20, 2006 Stockholm) otherwise known as Sven Vilhem Nykvist or The Master of Light was a Swedish cinematographer, film director, film producer, actor and screenwriter. He had two children, Carl-Gustav Nykvist and Johan Nykvist.

Nykvist is best known for his work with Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. He collaborated with Bergman on over 20 films, including "The Seventh Seal," "Persona," and "Cries and Whispers." He was known for his use of natural light and creating a timeless atmosphere in his films.

Nykvist won two Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, for the films "Cries and Whispers" and "Fanny and Alexander." He also won a number of other awards throughout his career, including three BAFTAs and an Emmy.

In addition to his work in film, Nykvist was also a photographer and published several books of his work. He was awarded the Royal Photographic Society's Progress Medal in 1994.

Nykvist continued to work in film throughout his later years, despite suffering from Parkinson's disease. He passed away in Stockholm in 2006, at the age of 83.
