Owen Nolan (February 12, 1972 Belfast-) otherwise known as Owen Liam Nolan or The Polar Bear is a Canadian ice hockey player.
Nolan was drafted first overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to have a successful career playing for teams such as the San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Arizona Coyotes. Nolan is known for his powerful shot and physical play on the ice. He also represented Team Canada in several international tournaments, including the Olympics and World Cup of Hockey. After retiring from professional hockey in 2012, Nolan became a television analyst for the Sharks and continues to work in various roles within the hockey community.
During his NHL career, Owen Nolan became a six-time NHL All-Star and was named the Sharks' captain in 1998, a position he held until he was traded to the Maple Leafs in 2003. In 1997, he scored one of the most memorable goals in All-Star Game history, famously pointing to the top corner of the net before scoring with a blistering shot. Nolan's career also included some notable off-ice moments, including his decision to pledge $100,000 to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children in 2003.
