Joe Strummer
Joe Strummer (August 21, 1952 Ankara-December 22, 2002 Broomfield) also known as John Graham Mellor, John Mellor, Woody or Woody Mellor was a Turkish singer, musician, actor, guitarist, songwriter, radio personality, film score composer and lyricist. He had two children, Jazz Mellor and Lola Mellor.
His most important albums: Walker, Island Hopping, Earthquake Weather, House of Blues and Love Kills. Genres: Punk rock, Rock music, Reggae, World music, Ska, Rock and roll, New Wave, Alternative rock, Rockabilly, Dub, Funk, Volk and Folk music.
He rose to fame as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the British punk rock band, The Clash, which was formed in 1976. Strummer's politically charged lyrics and passionate performances were a defining feature of the band, which is regarded as one of the most influential punk rock bands of all time. The Clash's hits, such as "London Calling," "Should I Stay or Should I Go," and "Rock the Casbah" are still widely recognized today.
After The Clash disbanded in 1986, Strummer continued to make music with other bands and as a solo artist. He also acted in a number of films, including "Mystery Train" and "Straight to Hell." In addition to his music and acting career, he was also a radio host for the BBC World Service.
Strummer passed away unexpectedly in 2002 due to an undiagnosed heart defect. He is remembered as a pioneer of punk rock and a passionate advocate for social justice causes. The Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music was founded in his memory to provide support to musicians and music projects around the world.
