He began his professional career in the 1980s with Tampereen Ilves and later went on to play for FC Inter Turku, HJK Helsinki, and Vaasan Palloseura.
Jutila earned 71 caps for the Finnish national team, scoring two goals during his international career. He played in three European Championships and attempted to qualify for the World Cup on numerous occasions, but Finland fell short on each occasion.
