Nikoloz Sanishvili

Nikoloz Sanishvili (December 24, 1902 Kutaisi-September 26, 1995) otherwise known as Nikolai Konstantinovich Sanov, Николай Константинович Санишвили or N. Sanov was a Georgian film director, actor and screenwriter. He had one child, Karina Shmarinova.

Sanishvili studied at the Cinema Department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow in the 1930s, and went on to direct and act in numerous films throughout his career, including "Spring," "Beyond the Mountains," and "Granny's Apples." He was renowned for his use of Georgian folklore and legends in his films, and is considered one of the leading figures of Georgian cinema. In addition to his work in film, Sanishvili was also a talented painter and musician. He received numerous awards during his lifetime for his contributions to the arts and cinema, including the title of People's Artist of the Georgian SSR.
