Helmut Köllen was a German musician who is best known as the founding member and bassist of the progressive rock band Triumvirat. Born and raised in Cologne, Germany, Köllen began playing music at a young age and quickly became interested in rock and roll. In 1969, he formed the band Triumvirat with two friends and gained a following in the local music scene.

Over the next few years, Triumvirat released several albums that combined classical music with progressive rock.
