He was best known as the founding member and bassist of the alternative rock band Soul Asylum. Mueller also contributed to other musical projects and played with acts such as Golden Smog and the Flops. Despite battling throat cancer, Mueller continued to tour with Soul Asylum until just a few months before his passing.
