Savitri

Savitri (December 6, 1935 Guntur-December 26, 1981 Chennai) also known as Savitri Ganesh, Kommareddy Savitri, Savitri Kommareddy, Savitri Nissankara, Savitri Ganesan or Savithri was an Indian actor, film director and film producer. She had two children, Vijaya Chamundeswari and Sathish Kumaar Ganesan.

Savitri began her acting career in Telugu cinema in the 1950s and later went on to work in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi language films. She was known for playing strong female characters and was regarded as one of the finest actors of her time.

Savitri received numerous awards for her acting, including the Rashtrapati Award for her portrayal of a Telugu poetess in the film Chivaraku Migiledi. She was also the first actress to receive the prestigious Mahanati Award, which was named after her.
