Mohammad Ali Jafari

Mohammad Ali Jafari (November 17, 2014 Tehran-November 17, 1986) was an Iranian film director, screenwriter and actor.

He was best known for his contributions to Iranian cinema during the 1960s and 1970s, and is considered a pioneer of the Iranian New Wave movement. Jafari studied film in Italy and returned to Iran in the mid-1960s to begin his career. His films often dealt with social issues and were critical of the Iranian government. He was also a founding member of the Iranian Directors Guild and served as its president from 1978 until his death in 1986. Despite censorship and persecution from the government, Jafari continued to make films and is remembered as one of the most important figures in Iranian cinema history.
