Toby Claude

Toby Claude (January 29, 1877 Dublin-October 27, 1962 Los Angeles) also known as Harriette Mary Kavanagh was an Irish actor.

She began her career in theatre in Dublin before moving to London in 1900. She appeared in numerous plays including works by Oscar Wilde and George Bernard Shaw. In 1913, she made her film debut in the British film “A Sister’s Sacrifice” and went on to act in over 40 films throughout her career. She was known for her dramatic roles and often played strong-willed and independent women. Claude also served as a nurse during World War I and was awarded the Belgian Order of Léopold II for her service. She continued acting in films and on stage until the 1940s and passed away in 1962 at the age of 85.
