Italo Tajo
Italo Tajo (April 25, 1915 Pinerolo-March 28, 1993 Cincinnati) also known as Tajo was an Italian opera singer.
He was a bass known for his rich voice and dramatic interpretations. Born in Pinerolo, Italy, Tajo began his music career singing in a church choir. He went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in Turin and made his operatic debut in 1937 as the Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlo.
Tajo performed in many of the world's leading opera houses, including La Scala, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Metropolitan Opera. He was renowned for his performances in roles such as Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville, Leporello in Don Giovanni, and Sparafucile in Rigoletto.
After retiring from singing in the early 1980s, Tajo taught voice at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. He also wrote a memoir, "Memories of Italo Tajo," which was published in 1984. Tajo died in Cincinnati in 1993 at the age of 77.
