His most important albums: Jamaican Fruit of African Roots. Genres he performed: Reggae, Dancehall and Dub.

Throughout his career, Philip Smart worked with many notable artists including Buju Banton, Shabba Ranks, and Mad Cobra. He began his career at the famous King Tubby's Studio in Kingston before moving to New York City in the 1980s. There, he worked at various studios including HCF Recording Studio and HC&F Recording Studio, which he co-founded with his wife, Patricia Chin. HC&F became a legendary studio and produced countless hits in the reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop genres.

Smart was also known for his technical expertise and was considered a pioneer in digital audio engineering. He was one of the first engineers to embrace computer-based recording technology and helped to develop the digital sound that defined reggae and dancehall music in the 1980s and 1990s.
