Aboud Rogo was born on April 5, 1968 in Siyu, a small town on Pate Island in Lamu County, Kenya. He became an Islamic cleric and served as an imam at various mosques in Mombasa, including the Masjid Musa and Masjid Shuhadaa.

Rogo was known for his outspoken and controversial views, particularly on the role of Islam in politics. He was a member of the radical Islamic group Al-Shabaab, which has been linked to numerous terrorist attacks in Kenya and Somalia.

On August 27, 2012, Rogo was driving with his family in Mombasa when their car was ambushed by unknown assailants. Rogo was shot and killed, while his wife and children suffered injuries.

His death sparked protests and violence in Mombasa, with hundreds of his supporters taking to the streets. The Kenyan government was accused of being behind the assassination, but they denied any involvement. The case remains unsolved to this day.
