Naftali Temu

Naftali Temu (April 20, 1945 Nyamira County-March 10, 2003 Nairobi) was a Kenyan personality.

Naftali Temu was a Kenyan long-distance runner who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, where he won the gold medal in the 10,000 meter race. He was the first Kenyan athlete to win a gold medal in the Olympics, and his victory helped to establish Kenya as a dominant force in distance running. Temu also won the bronze medal in the 5,000 meter race at the same Olympics. He continued to compete in international events throughout the 1970s, but his career was cut short by injuries. After retiring from competitive running, Temu coached and mentored young athletes in Kenya. He was posthumously inducted into the Kenyan Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.

He died as a result of prostate cancer.
