Salomėja Nėris

Salomėja Nėris (November 17, 1904 Vilkaviškis-July 7, 1945 Moscow) also known as Salomeja Neris was a Lithuanian teacher.

In addition to being a teacher, Salomėja Nėris was a prominent Lithuanian poet who wrote in both Lithuanian and Russian languages. She was known for her patriotic poetry which, during the Soviet occupation of Lithuania, often contained veiled political themes that spoke to the struggle for Lithuanian independence. Despite facing censorship and criticism from Soviet authorities, Nėris continued to publish her work and gained a large following among Lithuanians. Her collections of poetry include "In the Swirl of Time" and "Selected Poetry". Sadly, Nėris' life was cut short by cancer and she passed away in Moscow in 1945 at the age of 40. Her legacy lives on in her powerful poetry and her status as one of Lithuania's most beloved literary figures.

Vincas Kudirka

Vincas Kudirka (December 31, 1858 Lithuania-November 16, 1899 Kudirkos Naumiestis) also known as Dr. Vincas Kudirka was a Lithuanian physician and writer.

Kudirka was best known for his work as a poet and playwright, and is considered a key figure in the Lithuanian national revival of the late 19th century. His most famous work is the Lithuanian national anthem, "Tautiška giesmė," which he wrote in 1898. Kudirka was also actively involved in the Lithuanian national movement, and was a member of the Vilnius chapter of the Lithuanian Scientific Society. In addition to his literary work, Kudirka was a practicing physician, and worked in several Lithuanian towns before settling in Kudirkos Naumiestis. Despite his relatively short life, Kudirka had a significant impact on Lithuanian culture and identity, and is revered as a national hero in his home country.

He died as a result of tuberculosis.
