He began his acting career in the 1920s, appearing in numerous Mexican films during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Calles was also a talented director and producer, directing over 60 films and producing over 50. He was known for his work on the film "La Zandunga" (1938), which featured a young Pedro Infante, and "Doña Perfecta" (1951), which was an adaptation of a novel by Benito Pérez Galdós. Calles was also involved in the founding of the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In addition to his work in the film industry, Calles was also known for his love of horses and his skills as a horseman.

Gonzalo Curiel

Gonzalo Curiel (January 10, 1904 Guadalajara-July 4, 1958 Mexico City) also known as Gonzalo Curiel y Orquesta was a Mexican film score composer and actor.

Curiel began his musical career as a violinist and later joined the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico City. He then ventured into film composition and quickly gained recognition for his work.
